Xbox wireless controllers no sound

Don’t know if anyone can help, but my son loves his xbox and for Xmas I got him a wireless controller. Connected it up ok, but he gets no sound in his headset from it. Checked the support site and checked settings etc so took the controller back. Got a replacement and it has the same issue. The headset works on his wired controller so what are we missing. Can’t find anything online to help so WHO was the next logical step. Cheers

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you've got him the Chat headset. I haven't used one of them but I think it could be for chat only. You might have to get a stereo headset which is different. Again I could be wrong.

It’s the basic Xbox wireless controller just bought out of Tesco along with the basic chat headset(like a receptionist would wear with one ear piece and a mic)
He can hear his mates chatting but no game sound comes out.
Cheers for the help, as you can doubt tell this isn’t my thing.

Is it the newest wireless controller? Do you have the stereo headset adapter in case that's the problem? What headset is he using?

Goto settings, then display and sound then audio output.
What does it say under headset audio ?
